Hocking Valley Scenic Railway (Ohio)

The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway is a volunteer-run museum dedicated to preserving Ohio’s railroad history. Its scenic rides run over former coal and industrial lines, offering views of forests, hills, and small towns. Visitors can explore restored locomotives and passenger cars while learning about the region’s railroading past. Special events and themed excursions are held throughout the year, combining education with entertainment. The railway helps keep historic equipment in operating condition for future generations.

Huntington Railroad Museum (West Virginia)

The Huntington Railroad Museum showcases important railroad artifacts from the region, including historic locomotives and rolling stock. Notably, it preserved the cab of CSX 1998 (which has been moved to an unknown location) and the Chesapeake & Ohio 1308, which will soon been moved to Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek, Ohio for display and continued preservation. 1308's tender is gone already. The museum highlights the legacy of regional railroading and educates visitors on the impact of railroads in West Virginia and beyond. Exhibits cover both steam and diesel eras, giving a full picture of rail history. Volunteers maintain the equipment and provide tours, making it an engaging experience for all ages
