Six members from the Bishop's Waltham and District Twinning Association travelled to St-Bonnet-le-Château, beginning with a train journey from Winchester to Lyon, followed by a bus due to train disruptions. After arriving in St Etienne at 9:30 PM, they were warmly greeted by their French hosts.
Day 1
The group enjoyed a fun morning playing pétanque at the Obut Pétanque pistes, followed by a delicious long lunch. Afterward, they visited the Obut museum, took a walk around the lake, and saw the sundial gifted by Bishop's Waltham in 1988. The evening included speeches and a "bring and share" meal.
Day 2
The group visited Puy en Velay, climbing 263 steps to the St Michel d'Aiguilhe chapel. They toured the Cathédrale Notre Dame de Puy, explored a flea market, and visited a botanical garden and the Abbaye de Monvilliers. The evening was spent with host families, enjoying delicious food.
Day 3
They explored L'Aventure du Train, learned about local twinning activities, and visited the Chateau de Bouthéon, enjoying exhibits and panoramic views. The evening included another "bring and share" meal and a fun game of "Who am I?" with some language challenges.
Day 4
A more relaxed day with shopping at St Bonnet's marché, followed by a visit to the Collegiate Church and its bell tower. The day ended with a farewell meal at L'Entracte, where both groups exchanged gifts and promises of continued friendship.
Journey Home
Due to flood damage, the group travelled via Givors to Lyon, then continued smoothly to Paris and London, arriving home after 13 hours of travel.
