My name is Kateeya Brown and this will be my 6th year at Bridgeview in my own classroom. Before having my own classroom, I volunteered as a Reading Corps Americorps member at Bridgeview as a reading tutor. It was a really good experience, and it helped me gain lots of experience in a variety of reading strategies. I also did 2 years of substitute teaching in the Pleasant Valley district prior to my Reading Corps experience. I studied Elementary Education at Western Illinois University Quad Cities and graduated in December of 2010.
I have lived in LeClaire for the last 16 years, and absolutely love it! I have been married for 11 years to my wonderful husband, Zack. Zack and I met back in high school, but we weren't high school sweethearts. He was a PV Spartan, and I was a West High Falcon. Zack works in the construction business, so if you are looking for work to be done on your house I know a guy! :)
Zack and I have 2 children. Alijah is 13 and Lilli is 9. Lilli attends Cody Elementary in LeClaire and Alijah is an 8th grader at the junior high this year. Yikes! We have 1 sweet doggie Kinnick (he is a goldendoodle), an awesome cat named Ivory who I say is a "dog in a cat costume", and 4 chickens (Poppy, Lovee, Sweetie, and KT). We are all big animal lovers!
I love being a teacher! I had a wonderful eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Hoffman, who helped me become the teacher I am today. She worked hard to make a difference in each and every student's lives. She helped me transform into a more confident woman, and helped me believe that I could do anything I wanted to as long as I put my mind to it and worked hard. I became a teacher because she was my inspiration. I can only hope that I will give your child a little bit of inspiration towards something they are learning or interested in that will last through their whole life, like my eighth grade teacher did for me.
This year is going to be so unique with our current situation, but I am calling it an adventure! Our motto this year is "All in this TOGETHER!"
I am so excited to have your child in my classroom this year, and I am looking forward to watching them learn and grow!
