In AP Chemistry we will cover content equivalent to what is presented in two semesters of college general chemistry. Upon successful completion of this course and achievement of a satisfactory score on the AP Chemistry Examination, you may have the opportunity to receive general chemistry credits or place out of general chemistry classes and move into more advanced science courses during your first years in college.
In our first semester, we will review concepts presented during your first year of high school chemistry beginning with problem solving skills, data collection, significant figures, stoichiometry, and the basics of the periodic table and general properties of matter. Moving from this review foundation, we will study chemical reactions, solutions, properties of gases and thermochemistry before focusing in on a more in depth examination of the periodic table and chemical bonding. We will then apply concepts and skills covered here to rate laws, equilibrium scenarios, advanced acid-base chemistry, and applications of redox reactions.
In this class we will cover all the standards and learning objectives outlined by CollegeBoard in the AP Chemistry Course and Exam Description (linked below), but we will not cover them in the order that is outlined by the CED. Please refer to the syllabus and the unit assignment sheets for exact pacing and plans.
I have taught conceptual physics, CP chemistry, Honors chemistry, and AP chemistry. I currently teach Honors and AP chemistry.
I am married with two boys who are probably either building a rocket ship to outer space or are digging a tunnel to the other side of the world.
When I have time to myself, I love to read and snuggle with my cats.
I am a Google Certified Educator - Level 1, am currently on special assignment as an EdTech Instructional Support for Teachers (EdTech Teacher on Special Assignment), and am completing a Master's degree in Educational Technology. I have completed two separate AP Summer Institue training sessions as well.
