Student Government (SG) at Burnaby South Secondary is made up of about 30 students from grades 8–12 who represent the student body and promote school spirit. SG acts as a bridge between students, staff, and administration while planning events that bring the community together. Each term, SG hosts fun activities like Fear Factor, the Gingerbread Decorating Contest, and the Valentine’s Day Cake Off, along with larger annual traditions and grade-specific events. Through these initiatives, SG builds leadership, teamwork, and a stronger sense of school community.
With the support of sponsor teachers Ms. Sandhu and Ms. Corrado, Student Government 2025/2026 is led by 1 President and 1 Vice President, along with 5 Senior Executives. Each grade, as well as the ELL/International community, is represented by 2 representatives, ensuring all voices are heard. Members At Large (MALs) further support by helping with events and initiatives. Together, this team works to create an inclusive and spirited school community.
Including big events such as Rebel Fest, Student Government hosts many events such as Fear Factor, Gingerbread Decorating, and Cake Off. The events are usually free to participate, however, it is only opened to the students who have paid their student activity fee at the beginning of the year. Additionally, every pair of Grade Representatives run an event sometime throughout the year for their grade. Please stay tuned for your grade event and join to be a part of the fun experience!
In addition, every 6 months, Student Government hosts Town Hall to hear ideas and information from the student body. Therefore, unlike other events, Town Hall is mandatory to participate for the students who have been randomly selected. With the feedback attained from Town Hall, Student Government uses it to improve the learning environment and school community. Some past improvements that Student Government made with the suggestions from Town Hall include repainting and repairing washrooms, opening of common spaces, and adding additional benches on hallways. The students that are randomly chosen will be notified via school announcements.
The posters for events are always up on school boards and our social media (@bbysouthstudentgov) 2-3 weeks in advance, so pay extra attention while walking down the hallways to participate in Student Government events!
Students at Burnaby South can now easily sign up for Student Government events online through the links in our Instagram bio (@bbysouthstudentgov). Spaces are limited, and forms will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to submit yours as soon as possible!
