Letter to Town Meeting Members

Subject: Warrant Article #7: School Department Salary for Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Dear <insert Town Meeting Member name>,

I am writing to ask you to support Warrant Article #7: School Department Salary for Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

I believe strongly that equitable practices and access are a cornerstone of a strong community and schools. It is our responsibility to provide a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Many of our students have shared recent incidents of discrimination and don’t feel safe. A director for diversity, equity and inclusion in our schools would provide leadership and consistency in executing our shared values, and help us create a data-driven response to address systemic issues. Most of our peer-districts with similar racial makeup have already taken this step, and Burlington students deserve no less.

Please vote yes on Warrant Article 7 to accelerate the process of hiring this position and encourage School Committee members to include this position in their budget for FY 2021/2022.

Regards,
