These are photos which I want to explain the context of because I find certain techniques, aesthetics, or memories associated with them quite interesting or simply enjoyable.
The first photo I ever loved
I took this photo on a trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, arriving just as the sun began to rise. There's so many elements to pick apart: the intricate branches on the tree, the blinding yet warm glow of the sun, the car contrasting with it all...
But I don't need to write an analysis of this photo's meaning. Like any artform, photography is intuitive in the sense that humans can just get it and appreciate its beauty without having to explain how or why.
It's a cat photo—enough said
But honestly, despite its low quality, I think that this photo encapsulates a few of my philosophies in photography. I want to look for the candid and intimate shots and bring light to both big moments and quiet happenings. It may not have been much effort to look under the bed for this mischievous guy, but I think that it offers somewhat of a different perspective and I am looking to capture those.
It never gets old
Everyone knows what forests and nature looks like, but it still never gets old for me. When I see this photo, I think about the light, fresh air of the mountains and the boisterous chirping of the birds. Maybe I'll stumble upon some wild blueberries or something of the like.
I like this photo because of how busy it is. There are so many elements, but nonetheless a clear, lighted path of rocks forward. There's an ever present feeling that a creature will pop out the bushes because the nature theme is so strong. The photo is nothing special composition-wise, but I am glad that I recognized the beauty of the scene and stopped to appreciate it.
Capturing the Ethereal
This was taken at a botanical garden which they lit up for the holidays, creating a stunning and festive scene. Frankly, the staff did all the hard work to create such a picturesque setting, but this still remains one of my favorite photos.
I am a massive fan of any and all art which aims to convey transcendental and otherworldly themes. Something about the beautiful blue light in this photo captures that kind of mystique incredibly well, as if these people are on an incredible journey.
