The formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963, led to the Malaysia-Indonesia Confrontation as a result of the policies practiced by Indonesia against the Netherlands and the Sultanate of Brunei since 1962. From January 20, 1963, until August 11, 1966 (1297 days), Podad Camp served as a military operational control base in Peninsular Malaysia (Malaya) and Borneo, overseeing the borders and air routes from Lundu to Serian. Therefore, Podad Camp is a historical site that is worth visiting.
Towards the end of 1959, CADUO ANAK REJAS, a resident of Peros village hailing from Krokong Gunong Village, extended an invitation to fellow villagers to embark on a quest for a new settlement location with the aim of establishing a new village. The reason for this was the lengthy distance between Krokong Gunong Village and the nearby town of Bau, medical facilities, and educational institutions. They worked hard to construct roughly 20 longhouses and named the village Kampung Peros Krokong. CADUO ANAK REJAS was appointed as the Village Chief of Kampung Peros Krokong on July 1, 1980.
The newly established settlement was deemed appropriate owing to its terrain, characterized by level and fertile soil that is suited to agricultural activities. The region was endowed with a sufficient water source originating from the Peros River. The origins of the term "Peros" can be traced back to an individual afflicted with leprosy, who was abandoned and subsequently perished beneath a large boulder in close proximity to a tributary's shoreline. Following the passing of Peros, the indigenous community named the river as Sungai Peros.
Over time, a lot of families relocated to separate homes on their own property. By 2001, the number of longhouses had dwindled to a mere three units. Regrettably, a fire that occurred on March 8, 2014 resulted in the complete destruction of these longhouses. The area where the longhouses once stood was flattened and repurposed as a parking facility. Subsequently, the government erected an uncovered structure for the benefit of the inhabitants of Kampung Peros.
Currently, there are 66 registered families with a total population of 387 people living in Kampung Peros. Mr. Takim Anak Setam was appointed Village Chief in the year 2000 to succeed Mr. Caduo Anak Regas, who had retired. As a result of high population density, certain inhabitants have constructed their own houses in regions such as Pang Pidea, Tirap Sikoron, Pungguk Kunuk, and Pekan Krokong. However, they are still listed as part of the permanent residents of Kampung Peros.
According to the latest records and census in 2020, there are 70 house units and 117 registered Family Heads (K.I.R), with a total population of 458 people living in and outside the area of Kampung Peros Krokong. Mr. SATA ANAK NAJOI was selected and appointed as the Village Chief of Kampung Peros Krokong from April 1, 2019, to December 31, 2022, replacing Mr. TAKIM ANAK SETAM, whose term ended in 2018.
