First step - Record the accompaniment track

There are occasions now where the publishing company provides a track but for four of our chosen pieces we have recorded the tracks. We use a Tascam recorder to do the recording.

Second step - Prepare for the Singers

In cases where the singers are trained/professional, they would record themselves using the provided accompaniment track. For most church choirs, the singers need the support of their part being sung in their ear.

We therefore do the following:

1. The accompaniment track is downloaded to our iphones.

2. We then connect that phone to a JBL bluetooth speaker which will play the track while a person with a strong voice records the individual parts, e.g. Soprano, Alto, etc... We use the Tascam to record those tracks.

3. Once that is done we can send the track to each additional singer to listen to.

Third step - Individual Recordings

We decided to do all of the individual recording at the church on a camcorder. We use airpods to have the playback in the singers ear. The airpod is connected by bluetooth to the iphone used for playback.

Others have the singers record themselves at home and send the files to be edited.

We have been very cautious to use best practices to insure the safety and health of everyone involved. Masks are a must and we disinfect after each recording.

NOTE: Start the recording early and record past the song. The extra footage can be cut it out in productions but cannot be add it back.

Fourth step - Video editing

Once the recording is made, use the SD card to transfer to the video editing equipment. Cloud storage is also an option.

The editing procedures depends on the software that is used. It is recommended to have separate tracks per singer so that each singer can be edited individually.
