About BUHSSA

The Brandon University Health Studies Students’ Association (BUHSSA) is a student-led organization dedicated to representing and supporting students within the Faculty of Health Studies. BUHSSA works to enhance the student experience through advocacy, events, student engagement, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. By fostering collaboration between students, faculty, and the broader community, BUHSSA strives to create a welcoming and connected environment for all Health Studies students.

History

Nursing education at Brandon University began in 1986, and since that time there has consistently been a student association led by students, for students. BUHSSA is proud to continue this nearly 40-year legacy of student leadership, advocacy, and community within the Faculty of Health Studies. Over the years, the association has evolved to support a growing and diverse student body through advocacy initiatives, educational opportunities, social events, and collaboration with faculty and the broader community. Today, BUHSSA continues to serve as a bridge between students and faculty while fostering engagement, leadership, and connection among Health Studies students.

What We Do

Student Representation & Advocacy

Act as student representatives for Health Studies students
Provide support or an additional set of ears during meetings with professors, department chairs, or the Dean when requested

Student Support

Help students navigate academic concerns and direct them to appropriate resources
Provide a student-led voice in discussions affecting Health Studies programs

Events & Community Building

Organize social and wellness-focused events
Host activities that enhance student engagement and enrich the university experience
Foster a supportive and inclusive Health Studies community

Volunteer Opportunities

Share and promote volunteer opportunities relevant to health studies students
Help students gain experience in health-related and community settings

Communication & Information Sharing

Keep students informed about important updates, opportunities, and events
Act as a bridge between students, faculty, and the wider Health Studies community
