General Rules & Guidelines for Buhach Colony FFA Exhibitors 2019-2020

1. To be eligible to exhibit at any fair, each student must maintain a 2.0 (C) average in all classes with no more than one F, and NO F’s or D’s in any B.C. Agriculture Class. The eligibility list is available after the end of each grading period and that document will be used to determine student eligibility. According to Board Policy, you cannot participate in a school activity if your name is on the last ineligibility list prior to the activity.

a. The eligibility period for the Los Banos and Chowchilla Fair will be based on the 3rd quarter grade.

b. The eligibility for the Merced Fair will be based off of grade reports that will be due May 29, 2019. (Report sheets must be obtained by the exhibitor from their specie advisor(s) beginning on May 22, 2019). This is the responsibility of the exhibitor to obtain and meet all due dates to be eligible to exhibit.

If a student becomes ineligible for any reason, he/she will lose their privilege to exhibit at any fair with the Buhach Colony FFA and all costs associated with the project are at the expense of the exhibitor.

2. FFA members are required to make advanced communications and obtain their work from all teachers in advance and prior to any absence related to any FFA activity.

3. All rules and regulations of the Buhach Colony High School will apply to students who participate at fairs and competitions. FFA activities fall under the Merced Union High School District guidelines and are considered as a school activity.

4. Buhach Colony FFA members may be allowed to participate at the Los Banos, Chowchilla and Merced Fairs and any other exhibition will be up to the discretion of the Buhach Colony FFA Advisors and the Buhach Colony Agriculture Department each year.

5. All exhibitors are to follow directions and advice provided by the designated advisor for their species. The advisor’s direction should be followed for the entire length of the project period, and during fair where the project is being exhibited. This includes, but is not limited to, feeding, grooming and animal health recommendations.

6. Each exhibitor is required to be responsible for feeding, watering, grooming and supervision of their project animal(s) for the entire length of the project and during the entire fair or exhibition.

7. Each exhibitor is required to serve barn duties as assigned and specified by the advisors.

8. Each exhibitor is required to participate in the showmanship class for any species they have entered.

9. Each exhibitor is required to be present at the fair at the times designated by the advisor for the specie they are exhibiting or will be required to complete make up hours before receiving fair checks.

10. Each exhibitor is required to wear an Official FFA Uniform while showing or helping others in the ring

Males: White pants, white shirt (collar/button), FFA tie, Official FFA Jacket and appropriate shoes

Females: White pants, white shirt (collar/button), FFA scarf, Official FFA Jacket and appropriate shoes

11. All exhibitors MUST attend the awards program in attire designated by FFA Advisors (which could include Full Official Dress or current Fair T-shirt, see specie advisor for details of event)

12. All exhibitors must attend assigned meetings by the designated advisor leading up to the fair or exhibition and while at each fair, unless prior advanced arrangements have been made. Meetings could include but are not limited to, weigh days, specie specific meetings, work days, and fair prep/set up and clean out.

13. The advisor of any species will have the authority to take disciplinary action necessary toward any student that fails to comply with the FFA or school rules.

14. All exhibitors must attend a minimum of 4 FFA meetings per year and participate in at least two fundraisers to be eligible to exhibit at any fair.

15. All market animals and replacement heifer exhibitors are expected to solicit buyers for their project animals prior to fair and must have a buyers gift and thank you card present the day of sale for the animal to present to the buyer immediately after sale of animal, while in official uniform.

16. All sale animal exhibitors and/or award winners, are required to write Thank You Letters to all buyers and/or donors. Thank You cards must be provided to the advisor with a self-addressed stamped envelope - the advisor will then mail all Thank You Letters.

17. All exhibitors must have the official AET FFA record book(s) up to date prior to receiving check, no other form of record keeping will be accepted.

18. Each exhibitor must read and understand the rules and regulations in the premium book and heifer replacement programs literature. It is the students responsibility to meet all deadlines and entry requirements for each fair, including entry fees associated with. All entries are completed ONLINE

Entry confirmations are required to be provided to specie advisors by specified due dates.

19. All deposits for livestock are NON-REFUNDABLE and required by due dates as assigned by specie advisors.

20. Students are NOT allowed to stay overnight on the Fairgrounds at any County Fair without parental supervision. Students WILL NOT be supervised by Ag Instructors outside of designated specie schedules.
