Privacy Policy for BudgieWise

1. Overview
BudgieWise is a personal finance tracking application. We prioritize your privacy by keeping your transaction data on your device while using minimal cloud services for authentication, AI features, and subscription management.
BudgieWise helps you track income and expenses, set budgets, and receive AI-powered financial insights. Your transaction data is stored locally on your device and is not sold or monetized.
2. Data Storage
Local Data The following is stored only on your device and never uploaded to our servers:
Individual transactions (amounts, categories, notes, dates)
Budget settings
AI chat history and conversation logs
Financial analytics and summaries
Cloud Data The following is stored in our secure database (Google Firebase Firestore) to enable core app functionality:
Your email address and display name
Subscription status (free or Pro)
AI usage count (to enforce monthly message limits)
Last active timestamp
Rate limit data (to prevent abuse)
Data Loss Warning Because transaction data is stored locally, if you uninstall the app, reset your device, or lose your device, your transaction history may be permanently lost and cannot be recovered by us.
3. Data We Collect and Process
Authentication We use Google Firebase Authentication to verify your identity, manage login sessions, and track subscription status. This involves your email address and basic profile information (name, profile photo if provided by Google).
AI Assistant — Important When you use the Budgie AI chat feature, the following information is sent to Google Gemini (Google's AI service) to generate a response:
Your text message
A financial summary including: your monthly budget, total income this month, total expenses this month, your biggest expense category, and your last 7 transactions (amounts and categories only — no personal notes unless included in your message)
This data is transmitted securely and used only to generate your AI response. We do not store your AI conversations on our servers. Google Gemini processes this data according to Google's privacy policy at https://ai.google.dev/privacy.
We also record how many AI messages you have sent this month to enforce your plan's message limit (35 for free users, 600 for Pro/VIP users).
Subscription Services We use Google Play Billing and RevenueCat to process payments and manage subscription status. These services handle payment data according to their own privacy policies. We do not store your payment information.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
Verify your identity and maintain your login session
Enforce your subscription plan's AI message limits
Prevent abuse of the AI service (rate limiting)
Provide AI-powered financial insights via Google Gemini
Process and verify your subscription status
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
5. Permissions
Notifications Used to send budget reminders and spending alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Internet Access Required for authentication, AI features, and subscription management.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share limited information only with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:
Google Firebase — authentication and account data storage
Google Gemini — AI response generation (financial summary sent per message)
RevenueCat — subscription management
Google Play — payment processing
Vercel — backend API hosting
We may also share information when required by law or valid legal process.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account data (email, name, subscription status, usage count) for as long as your account is active. If you would like your data deleted, contact us at the email below and we will remove it within 30 days.
Your local transaction data can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the app.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information including encrypted connections (HTTPS), server-side authentication verification on every request, access controls ensuring users can only access their own data, and rate limiting to prevent unauthorized use.
However, no digital system is completely secure. You are responsible for securing your device and protecting access to your account.
9. Children's Privacy
BudgieWise is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Your Rights
You have the right to request access to the data we hold about you, request deletion of your account data, stop using the app and delete local data at any time by uninstalling, and opt out of AI features by simply not using the chat function.

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Updates will be reflected by the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
