History of Bucks Tree Club
The Club as when a group local subscribers to The Dendrologist in 2008 after a lecture by Dr. Oliver Rackham at Lockers Park School, Hemel Hempstead, Herts was booked by several members so when they met up there, decided to visit Cliveden, the National Trust property, and in the autumn a small Christmas tree plantation at Little Friars, Chesham that utilized the American system of customers choosing their tree in the autumn and collecting in December. Free Christmas trees were (and are still offered to churches) whilst specimen trees that had been planted on a whim over the years, numbers had accidentally grown to qualify as an arboretum. After this beginning, members began organized other visits, sometimes with a guide or the owner of the property showing their trees and also sharing information between themselves as a club.

The start of the tree year is Dendro Day, - always the first Sunday in March. ‘Dendro’ is the Greek word for tree and using this word D.E.N.D.R.O. as an acronym is a useful prompt for tree care. See the *2Home page. Always remember using binoculars is useful in examining branches high up and in winter, spotting damage to them
