The Black Tide Guild for the Gifted (BTEG), was founded in 2019 and since our inception, we have grown in purpose, mission, and offerings.
Our mission is to equip young men and women with Christian values and the ability to solve world issues.
Our vision is to prepare all students as morally sound leaders and problem solvers by challenging them with interdisciplinary projects and professional experiences.
We strive to achieve our vision through 5 critical components. These are the BTEG's purposes for existing.
Our purposes are to:
Instill scholars with Christian values while validating their heritage;
Equip scholars with business skills in a 21st-century context;
Train scholars to solve world problems;
Engage scholars in culturally relevant citizenship;
Cultivate the growth of scholars in mind, body, and spirit
We firmly believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, including His death, burial, and resurrection, as well as the belief in the Holy Trinity. Within our non-denominational approach, we prioritize the practical application of these beliefs, focusing on their real-life relevance rather than engaging in theological debates. Without reservation, we openly discuss God and how he leads us. Our foundational principles center around the conviction that Christian values have the profound ability to enrich our lives, sharpen our problem-solving abilities, diminish self-centered behaviors, and promote a spirit of love. An inherent reverence for God drives our commitment to integrating His teachings into our behavior and character, believing that they bring us true freedom.
Our program operates based on MI Theory which comes from the researcher Howard Gardner who was famous for identifying different forms of intelligences students can grow in.
What is Multiple Intelligences Theory?
Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences proposes that people are not born with all of the intelligence they will ever have.
This theory challenged the traditional notion that there is one single type of intelligence, sometimes known as “g” for general intelligence, that only focuses on cognitive abilities.
To broaden this notion of intelligence, Gardner introduced eight different types of intelligence consisting of: Linguistic, Logical/Mathematical, Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Naturalist.
Gardner notes that the linguistic and logical-mathematical modalities are most typed valued in school and society.
Gardner also suggests that there may be other “candidate” intelligences—such as spiritual intelligence, existential intelligence, and moral intelligence—but does not believe these meet his original inclusion criteria. (Gardner, 2011).
