Traditional to Science

Preserving the "Heart" of the Writing Project

As directors and coaches planned the first summer institute dedicated specifically to science teachers in 2016, they articulated principles of the BSWP that would maintain continuity across years and different types of summer institutes.

  • The Boise State Writing project is a community. As such, we have a shared language, traditions, routines and values.
  • We value using essential questions and the inquiry model as a foundation for teaching and learning.
  • Literacy and content area instruction is blended. One is not in service of the other.
  • We believe in understanding and articulating the pedagogical principles behind our practice for students, parents, colleagues and the community.
  • Writing Project Fellows position themselves as thinking partners, with the purpose of engaging in meaningful conversations about student learning and literacy at local, state and national levels.
