Thaya Paramanathan: Thaya obtained his BSc (Physics) honors degree from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and his MS and PhD from Northeastern University, Boston. He did his postdoctoral training at Brandeis University. He served as a Lecturer at the University of Jaffna and Assistant Professor at Assumption College, Worcester before joining Bridgewater State University in 2014. He is interested in applying physics technics to solve biological problems. Thaya is a huge PATS fan and loves to play basketball and hike.
Jason Martin: Jason is a senior physics major from Dighton, Massachusetts. He loves working with lasers and is an expert in aligning dual-beam optical tweezers. Jason is exploring the anticancer drug Doxorubicin's interactions with DNA. Jason was selected to present at Havard NCRC as one of the 200 researchers selected throughout the nation. In his free time, he plays golf, soccer, and basketball. He is a star player on the Physics basketball team at BSU. Jason will always have "one more question" for you. He plans on going to graduate school to explore more on how to apply physics to complicated systems.
Jacob McNally: Jacob is a senior double major in Biology and Physics from Somerset, Massachusetts. He is researching the minor groove binder Netropsin's interactions with DNA. In 2023, Jacob and his research partner won the Best Research Presentation given by the Physics department annually. He loves to rock climb, go on hikes, and travel. He loves to play chess and takes a lot of pride in his global ranking.
Mohamed Ali Chadli: Mohamed is a junior photonics and optical engineering major from Easton, Massachusetts, now living in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Mohamed along with Waleed is exploring the binding of anticancer drug Mitoxantrone to DNA. He likes to play soccer and is a huge Liverpool FC supporter. Mohamed led the Physics basketball team at the BSU intramural tournament. He loves working on cars in his free time and going to the beach during the summertime.
Waleed Jabak: Waleed is a junior majoring in Photonics and Optical Engineering. He is a Lebanese-American. Waleed has partnered with Mohamed to research the interaction between the anticancer drug Mitoxantrone and DNA. Outside the lab, he likes playing soccer, foosball, ping-pong, and basketball. Waleed's hobbies include snowboarding, hiking, walking, running, hunting, riding offroad motorcycles and ATVs, swimming, trick diving, off-shore fishing, and agricultural work. He also enjoys listening to Arabic music and likes to do mechanic work on Japanese car engines. He is also passionate about adventuring and exploring places I've never been to.
Leen Attia: Leen is a dual enrollment student at BSU and a senior in high school at Al Noor Academy from Massachusetts. She has an interest in Computer Science and Physics. Outside of school, she is passionate about advocating for women in STEM, creating wire jewelry for her business, and training in the martial arts.
Benjamin Eng: Benjamin is a junior double major in Physics and Mathematics from Easton Massachusetts. Outside of the lab, Benjamin has a passion for Photography and Film. In his free time, he also loves playing soccer and playing the drums for his church.
Christopher Leary: Christopher is a Freshman from Saxtons River, Vermont. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Photonics and Optical Engineering. In his spare time, he enjoys soccer, photography, and culinary arts.
Jake Palenstijn: Jake is a junior physics major currently living in Kingston, Massachusetts, but originally from the Netherlands. In addition to his major in physics, he is also working toward a minor in mathematics and economics. He is a huge sports fan and loves to spend his free time watching and supporting all his favorite teams. He also loves to travel and especially enjoys going back to visit his family in the Netherlands.
