Thaya Paramanathan: Thaya obtained his BSc (Physics) honors degree from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and his MS and PhD from Northeastern University, Boston. He did his postdoctoral training at Brandeis University. He served as a Lecturer at the University of Jaffna and an Assistant Professor at Assumption College, Worcester, before joining Bridgewater State University in 2014. He is interested in applying physics techniques to solve biological problems. Thaya is a huge PATS fan and loves to play basketball and hike.
Mohamed Ali Chadli: Mohamed is a senior photonics and optical engineering major from Easton, Massachusetts, now living in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Mohamed, along with Waleed, is exploring the binding of anticancer drug Mitoxantrone to DNA. He likes to play soccer and is a huge Liverpool FC supporter. Mohamed led the Physics basketball team at the BSU intramural tournament. He loves working on cars in his free time and going to the beach during the summertime.
Waleed Jabak: Waleed is a senior majoring in Photonics and Optical Engineering. Waleed has partnered with Mohamed to research the interaction between the anticancer drug Mitoxantrone and DNA. Outside the lab, he likes playing soccer and basketball. Waleed's hobbies include snowboarding, hiking, running, and swimming. He is also passionate about adventuring and exploring places he has never been to.
Benjamin Eng: Benjamin is a Senior from Easton, Massachusetts, double majoring in Mathematics and Physics. He is focusing on creating video media for the SMB lab as a resource for future lab members. Outside of school, he is passionate about photography, videography, and music. He likes to apply these passions recreationally, professionally, and for Christian ministries like his local church.
Christopher Leary: Christopher is a Sophomore from Saxtons River, Vermont. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Photonics and Optical Engineering. He also serves as president of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) at BSU. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, hiking, and soccer. He is exploring the interactions between the anticancer drug Curaxin and DNA using optical tweezers through constant force experiments.
Jake Palenstijn: Jake is a senior physics major from Middleboro, Massachusetts. He also has a minor in mathematics and economics. He is studying the interactions between the anticancer drug Doxorubicin and DNA. He is a huge sports fan and loves to spend his free time watching and supporting all his favorite teams. He also loves to travel and especially enjoys going to visit his family in the Netherlands.
Graeson Riggs: Graeson is a sophomore from Lakeville, Massachusetts. He is pursuing a major in Physics with no concentration and the possibility of a Mathematics minor. When he has free time, he enjoys playing a variety of sports, baking, and playing video games with his friends.
Eian McNamar: Eian is a Physics major from Warwick, Rhode Island. Eian's long-term passion is to introduce quantum techniques to biophysics.
Cal Whitaker: Cal is a double major in Physics and Biology from Pembroke, Massachusetts.
Liam Doucet: Liam is a sophomore double major in Physics and Chemistry from Attleboro, Massachusetts. He is the president of the BSU Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club, as well as a member of the BSU Men's Club Volleyball Team. In his free time, he loves to play sports, such as volleyball, jiu-jitsu, and pickleball.
Jacob Fredette: Jacob is a sophomore from Charlton, Massachusetts, who is majoring in Physics and Mathematics. He is also a member of the BSU Track and Field Team. Outside of the lab, Jacob enjoys playing basketball, making music, fishing, and food. Jacob is passionate about using physics and mathematics to make a positive impact on others. Lastly, Jacob loves giving Dr. Thaya a hard time🤪.
Melody Lowe: Melody is a double major in Physics and Biology from Smithfield, Rhode Island.
