1. Application

2. Background Investigation
Employment in law enforcement agencies involves public trust. Only those persons whose conduct, character and behavior does not discredit either themselves or the Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be employed. The DPS employment process will address the integrity, ethical conduct, honesty, prejudices and past behavior of all applicants.
3. Oral Interview
The oral interview is conducted by a recruiter and will be asked of series of questions to determine stability, honesty, professionalism, and overall performance.
4. DPS Leadership Interview
This oral interview is conducted by members of DPS Leadership.
5. P.O.S.T. Application & Approval
The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Test is given by the Training Council and if the member passes they can proceed to the next phase.
6. Georgia Public Safety Training Center
The Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) is a week long academy that all new Trooper Cadets are required to attend, upon passsing they will move to the next phase.
7. Field Training
Upon passing the academy, members are given their badges and are assigned to their patrol post as a probationary trooper and shall work with a Field Training Officer for 5 days and upon passing Field Training they are promoted to the rank of Trooper and can work by themsleves.
