One of the important supports the Regional Team provides to districts is the development, facilitation and continued support of professional development. In order to ensure all professional development provided by the Regional teams is consistent and research-based, protocols for the development, planning, and facilitation of professional development have been created.
District or school-based leadership request professional development using the Region Professional Development Request Form. If an SI Region team member is approached about providing professional development to a supported district or school, the team member should provide the form to the district or school contact so that it can be completed and submitted to the Region team. See below for form.
Once a PD request has been received from a district or school, the requested Region team member will identify existing modules that may be used to fill the PD need from the SI Professional Library, or will coordinate the development of a new module. All PD delivered within the Region must be coordinated through and reviewed by the Region team and the Lead Executive Director.
PD materials must be submitted to the Region team at a minimum of 10 days prior to the date of the scheduled PD delivery. A short-term request will be sent to the RED to accommodate immediate feedback. There is a three-step protocol for PD reviews unless it is a short-term request.
Step I calls upon the specialist who was requested to provide the PD to partner with a colleague for coordination of the PD.
Step II offers the following items as being submitted together to the Region team and Lead Executive Director for any PD for which a team member is requesting coordination and review:
SI Region Professional Development Request Form
Power Point
Using template with components
Including completed notes
All handouts
Proposed additions/deletions
Step III the Region team and Lead Executive Director will provide feedback within three days of receipt of the PD materials. After provided revisions are completed, the PD provider will post the PD package to the TEAMS folder using the following file format: DATE_PDNAME_LOCATION (For example, 08_25_15_Problem_Solving_Broward).
