Nota Bene (Note Well): This website is fully functional on all devices and platforms. Unfortunately, embeds such as videos, Torches and slideshows do not, due to their software, work well on mobile.
The Junior Classical League is an organization for middle and high school students, at first in the US, but now extending to other countries—studying the classics of Ancient Greece and Rome. Our purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity.
As a division of the Tennessee Junior Classical League in Memphis, TN, we are open to homeschooled students in the Memphis area. If you are interested in joining, please email joseph.nardo.a5yhm@slmail.me. If you are not homeschooled or in our area, go to tjcl.org/chapters.html to see a list of chapters in our state.
One of the most important events in all conventions, Certamen is a quizbowl-like contest on History, Mythology, Language Literature and Culture of the Romans.
Tests of all kinds are available, both at convention and around the year, on almost any classical topic you can think of.
The Costume Contest, Dramatic Interpretation, and Sight Latin Reading are all included in this category, alongside many others.
Our schedule, which is updated regularly, is available to members of our chapter in order to find the dates of conventions, tests, and other JCL events.
We have recently developed a constitution for our chapter, which is available by clicking the button below.
The Torch is the newsletter which is published by the BSHG chapter as an update for all of our members on what is happening and what has been going on recently, such as conventions, exams, presentations and meetings.
