The following videos demonstrate the efficacy of Dynamic Watermarking (see research page) in securing several prototypical automated transportation systems from different kinds of attacks. Please refer to the papers titled "Theory and Application of Dynamic Watermarking for Cybersecurity of Advanced Transportation Systems" and "Dynamic Watermarking-Based Defense of Transportation Cyber-Physical Systems" for more details on these demos.
In addition to the above laboratory demonstrations, field tests of Dynamic Watermarking have also been performed. Specifically, we deployed Dynamic Watermarking on a Lincoln MKZ Autonomous Research Vehicle (ARV) and showed how it secures the vehicle from various attacks. The following videos demonstrate the results. The first video demonstrates the result of a specific attack on the ARV that causes the vehicle to toggle. The effect of such an attack in an uncontrolled environment such as the road needs no elaboration. The second (and thankfully uninteresting) video shows how Dynamic Watermarking quickly detects the attack and halts the vehicle, thereby averting a potential catastrophe. These videos are accompaniments to the paper titled "Dynamic Watermarking for Cybersecurity of Autonomous Vehicles." Please read the paper for more details.
