KPS 24-25 Negotiations Proposal with final adopted verbiage for CBA: this was passed on to the negotiations committee and has changed very little from its original draft. The line item for what was ultimately added to the CBA has been included. I redacted the names of staff members who signed on their support for anonymity purposes.
Final correspondence to SCC with changes proposed for next year's cohort. It shows the relationships I have with the teachers and that I have been responsive to their feedback: it also keeps them informed of where the process stands. We have already been approved to hold the cohort during the next school year.
Identify the part(s) of your plan you were able to implement (given the nature of leadership work, your project may actually continue beyond submission of your Capstone Portfolio). I was able to execute all aspects of my process. How successful was your action plan at addressing the challenge? My action plan holistically addressed several issues facing self contained teachers. Each cohort meeting had between 4 and 8 self contained teachers. Our proposal was approved by the district committee and will be included in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Which stakeholders and association practice or program were impacted? How do you know (site evidence)? Self contained teachers were acknowledged in a way they never have been in the past in our district. Many district representatives (and those who attended negotiations or followed the process, which was many during this contentious session) became more profoundly aware of the challenges facing this group of teachers and were able to acknowledge these fiscally and otherwise.
How were your four chosen competencies used in the implementation of your project? I used established relationships as well as confident social skills to engage a variety of stakeholders to get the group up and running. I also utilized those skills to gain insight from many different personnel and draft the proposal. I continued to appropriately rally for the proposal once it had entered the negotiations arena. I held strong in my dedication to the proposal because we all believe it is just the beginning of self contained teachers having equity within our district.
What obstacles, if any, did you encounter? How did you address them? The biggest challenge we encountered was not unique to just our group. Due to a contentious negotiations cycle, wherein agreement could not be reached. The proposal is codified, but cannot go through until the entire contract is adopted, hopefully at the beginning of the upcoming school year.
Given the outcomes, describe any changes you might make to the Capstone Project’s action plan. The only ways I wish I could’ve followed through a bit better on were being present at union/negotiations meetings (my schedule got especially prohibitive during the second semester of the school year) and doing a better job of mentoring fellow cohort members in being able to effectively take over the role of facilitation of the groups.
