On Thursday, we had the chance to honor our juniors and seniors who were accepted to Mu Sigma Rho and Kappa Mu Epsilon, our Statistics and Mathematics Honors societies. We also recognized our students who have earned their joint SAS Specialization in Data Mining. Congratulations All!

Collaborating with faculty member, Dr. Gao Niu, Jason published his paper titled "Value Analysis and Prediction through Machine Learning Techniques for Popular Basketball Brand". It will appear in the new book Biomedical and Business Applications Using Artificial Neural Networks and Machine Learning. Jason also presented this research at Bryant's Board of Trustees Showcase (poster pictured).
An Honors Scholar and AMS major, Kaitlyn (pitcured with her thesis adviser Dr. Alicia Lamere) will be beginning a PhD program in Statistics at Penn State University in the Fall of 2021 where she received full fellowship support. There she plans to bridge her passions for Statistics and Political Science. She was named Student of the Year at a 4-year institution by the Northeast Regional Honors Council for her thesis work at Bryant, titled "Instrumental vs. Expressive: A Study of Voter Behavior Models Through the Lens of Identity in the 2016 Presidential Election." The annual conference was hosted virtually by Bentley this year, with many students and faculty from Bryant taking part. Jonathan presented his thesis work “Under Pressure: A Case Study of the Effects of External Pressure on MLB Players using Twitter Sentiment Analysis” and Kaitlyn presented her thesis work “Instrumental vs. Expressive: A Study of Voter Behavior Models Through the Lens of Identity in the 2016 Presidential Election". Jonathan Ormsbee '18 and faculty members Dr. Son Nguyen (pictured), Dr. Gao Niu, Dr. Alan Olinsky, Dr. John Quinn and Dr. Rick Smith received the Outstanding Author Contribution at the 2020 Emerald Literati Awards. Matthew Bonas '19 won 5th place in the best poster competition for his work on "Predicting Vehicle Damage Using Machine Learning Techniques" at the Northeast Decision Sciences Institute Conference. Matt is now pursuing his PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Notre Dame
