I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX (Go Spurs Go!). My childhood was spent playing football, baseball, and learning instruments (violin, trombone, guitar, etc.). I also went on regular fishing trips with my dad along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Recently, I became a fan of Notre Dame football, which has no relation to my current employment.
I originally earned a B.A. in psychology from UT San Antonio. A couple years later, I returned to UTSA to study mathematics. Recently, I earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from UC Irvine. Many of my most memorable early mathematical experiences were reading my favorite authors and trying to solve the problems at the end of the chapters. The books that made the most impact on me were Rudin's Principles of Mathematical Analysis (aka Baby Rudin), Spivak's Calculus on Manifolds, and Stein and Shakarchi's four volume series, The Princeton Lectures in Analysis.
Outside of math, I enjoy relaxing with my wife, our dog, and our cats. My hobbies include reading, hiking, playing bass guitar, and nature photography. Here are some favorite shots:
