October 2022 - August 2025
F1 in Schools is an international STEM competition endorsed by Formula 1, where student teams design, manufacture, test, and race miniature compressed air-powered cars carved from polyurethane. Teams must manage every aspect of a professional racing operation, from CAD design and CFD simulation to sponsorship development, marketing strategy, and race-day performance, competing against schools worldwide for advancement to regional, national, and world finals.
As founder and Team Principal of Bravos Racing, I established the first F1 in Schools team in Tamaulipas state history, building the program from the ground up. Over a 2+ year campaign, I led our cross-functional team to win 1st place at Regional Finals and 1st place at National Finals, defeating 30+ teams to qualify for the 2024 World Finals representing Mexico. I secured partnerships with 17+ international sponsors across automotive, aerospace, and technology sectors through corporate pitches, raising 1.25M MXN ($90,000+ CAD) in funding.
Through this project, I developed comprehensive project management frameworks following PMI standards, coordinating technical deliverables, sponsor obligations, marketing activities, and competition deadlines while managing team budget allocation across manufacturing, travel, and operational expenses.
Serving as the team's aerodynamics lead, I conducted 300+ computational fluid dynamics simulations across 25+ car iterations using Ansys Fluent and Autodesk Fusion 360, systematically testing variables to optimize drag coefficients and aerodynamic stability. I designed precision CAD models and coordinated CNC machining and laser cutting processes to manufacture competition-spec vehicles. This iterative research process—identifying performance gaps, testing solutions through simulation, and refining designs based on data—resulted in measurable improvements in race performance and technical presentation scores throughout regional and national competitions.
In July 2024, Bravos Racing represented Mexico at the F1 in Schools Aramco World Finals in Singapore, competing against the top teams from over 50 countries. Our team was paired with the Alset Team from Brazil to form Pangea Racing. It was awarded the Best International Collaboration Team by Ansys, recognizing our ability to build meaningful partnerships, engage with global stakeholders, and demonstrate collaboration skills at their finest.
To ensure the continuation of F1 in Schools at my school, I served as one of three mentors for Team Orion in the Development Class during my last year of High School. I guided students through CAD design, aerodynamic principles, manufacturing processes, and business strategy, providing technical mentorship and project management support. Under this guidance, Team Orion achieved 1st place at Regional Finals and 3rd place at National Finals in their debut season, which proved that the foundation that was built throughout Bravos will continue to motivate other students to participate in this STEM competition.
