Understanding the role of shared e-scooters at UCLA
Today Bruins can get around Westwood in a mulitute of ways. In recent years, shared electric scooters have made their presence known on the UCLA campus, for better or for worse. This study seeks to be the first of its kind in understanding who rides e-scooters at UCLA, why they ride them, where they ride them, how they have affected the overall distribution of transportation modes at UCLA, what sort of issues the community posesses about e-scooters, and what could potentially be done to remedy these issues.
Intended Outcomes
Who rides e-scooters at UCLA? Are there any common socio-economic or academic factors among e-scooter riders? Are equity concerns present among e-scooter riders?
Are e-scooters and other electric putting other students at risk or are they an effective means of student microtransit? What should be done to improve student safety while balancing transportation efficiency?
Why do people take e-scooters and where are they going? When do people opt to take e-scooters versus other modes?
How do factors like UCLA's hills and weather impact e-scooter ridership? What is the overall consensus concerning e-scooters on campus?
