Since 1925, the Brown County Chapter has been active in the League protecting the natural resources in Brown County. In fact, the Chapter's members played an integral part in getting the government to hold the paper companies responsible for the clean-up of the Fox River. The Izaak Walton League of America is the nation's oldest conservation group and is truly one of the only organizations who aims to protect all natural resources. The National League was formed in 1922 by a group of 54 anglers and was named in honor of Sir Izaak Walton, an avid fisherman who wrote the book "The Compleat Angler." The Brown County Chapter continues to respect and value the conservation policies of the League and wishes to share its conservation values with the public, as well as provide opportunities for children and families to reconnect with nature.
Through its local chapters, state divisions and national organization, we work to conserve wetlands, clean the air, reduce energy consumption, preserve wilderness areas, protect fish and wildlife habitat, and improve management of our farmlands and forests. Through the League's, as well as our Chapter's, publications, workshops, events, Web site, quarterly magazine and numerous on-the-ground projects across the country, we give citizens the knowledge and tools they need to be responsible stewards of the outdoors.
At the state and national levels, the League's volunteers and staff work together to promote common-sense, practical policy solutions to critical conservation issues. Our goal is to ensure that America's natural resources are protected, managed, and used in a sustainable manner for generations to come.
The Brown County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League lost a great member and leader on September 8, 2025. Steve's devotion to the League was unquestionable and we will truly miss him. His legacy will live on for years and years as people enjoy Osprey Point and as the youth he mentored in fishing and hunting continue to enjoy such outdoor recreation activities during their lives. As we work to advance the League's mission of defending our natural resources and providing opportunities to engage in outdoor recreation, the Brown County Chapter frequently teams up with its neighboring chapter, the Southern Brown Conservation Club. This year, with the National Convention coming to Green Bay in July 2025, our two chapters wanted to do something special. We teamed up with Gnarly Cedar Brewery to develop a special beer that would promote and advocate for the League's conservation mission. Gnarly Cedar Brewery brewed a special honey ale that features honey that was harvested from beehives that the Brown County Chapter and Southern Brown Conservation Club maintain. In keeping with the League's agriculture program of promoting healthy soils and clean water, the honey ale also features a perennial wheat that is used as a cover crop to ensure soils are able to stay on a farmer's field. We have named the beer as "Buzzin with the Ikes." Be sure to check it out in mid-July when Gnarly Cedar Brewery releases it. Our two chapters will also be serving such ale at various events we have coming up including the national convention July 17-19 and Brown County Chapter's 100th anniversary on July 20th.

Today, the League's more than 40,000 members and supporters come from all walks of life. Many have a keen interest in fishing, hunting, camping, and other outdoor recreation. Most belong to one of the League's 200+ community-based chapters across the country. All share a passion for protecting the outdoors.
To conserve, restore, and promote the sustainable use and enjoyment of our natural resources, including soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife.
"To strive for the purity of water, the clarity of air, and the wise stewardship of the land and its resources; to know the beauty and understanding of nature and the value of wildlife, woodlands, and open space; to the preservation of this heritage and to mankind's sharing in it. I pledge myself as a member of the Izaak Walton League of America."
