Dr. Browder earned her BA in Biochemistry at Oberlin College (OH) and her PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City). Her dissertation focused on development of the interrupted Nazarov reaction with a brief forray into total synthesis of Asteriscanolide. After postdoctoral research at Oregon State University (Corvallis), where she contributed to the total synthesis of Polycavernoside A and explored a route to Phomactin A, Dr. Browder began her independent career at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. There, she mentored undergraduate researchers in development of new synthetic methodology aimed at total synthesis of Myriaporone 4. Dr. Browder has been at Northern Arizona University since 2007, where her work in heterocyclic chemistry and methodology has led to undertakings in drug design and synthesis as well polymer design and synthesis, with an emphasis on benign and sustainable chemistry. In addition to overseeing a group of undergraduate and graduate research students, she teaches courses in undergraduate and graduate Organic Chemistry, Chemistry Writing, and Drug Discovery. Dr. Browder's research currently focuses on development of new polymers and ionic liquids for application to solid polymer electrolytes.
