RESPONDING TO CURRENT EQUITY CONCERNS: As a non-profit dedicated to the support of mental health of our young people in Broomfield, we take a strong anti-racist stance as we work to support our children in their learning.
During these times of uncertainty and unrest, there are many things for us to consider as we engage in conversations with our children about allyship, racism, bias and social justice.
One way we can support our children’s skill development for contributing to the Broomfield community is to make space for our children to ask us questions. When our children ask us questions, they are showing us that they are ready to explore and learn more about different topics - even topics that can be difficult for adults to navigate and process. Here is a quick guide to help us answer tough questions from our children.
Another way we can support our children to be prepared for successful, civically engaged lives is to encourage our children to share their ideas with us and a larger audience, so they know that their voice has an important place in the world. Here are six simple ways to help us raise civically engaged children.
We can support our children to be prepared for life beyond the walls of our schools and homes by providing children with the opportunity to read books about equity, inclusion, diversity celebration and books where the sheros, heroes and protagonists of the stories are women, people of color and historically marginalized people. Here is a list of 31 Children’s books to support conversations on race, racism and resistance.
We welcome your partnership in our work moving forward as we actively engage in acts of social justice.
COMMUNITY MEETING- MARCH 1, 2018: As we wrestled with the challenges that face us, especially after the school shooting tragedy in Parkland, Florida, we at Broomfield Buddies felt the need to come together as a Broomfield Community and continue to move forward with intelligent, connected work to support young people and their mental health.
