About Our Mission

The goal of GIDAS is to create student advocates for personalized medicine, as well as provide them with the resources and knowledge to be able to conduct computational biology research on their own data sets.

Using volunteering, fundraising, and other activities, GIDAS members will be directly involved in raising recognition for diseases and providing funding for essential research. They will also learn about the impact of the environment on our gene expressions, how we can prevent age-related diseases with this understanding, and other topics relating to medicine and health. Using tools such as GEO2R, members will learn to perform valuable research on various genes and their potential effect on the development of diseases.

About Our Events:

Genes and Health Contest: The Genes and Health Contest is a (virtual) meeting with many other GIDAS members from clubs nationwide. It will include competitions based on the Disease of the Year, as well as computational biology exercises. Members will be prepped throughout the year using content presentations and other resources. This event is a fun way to meet like-minded people around the country, and have an opportunity to win cash prizes!

High School Research Conference: Members will be given a chance to present the research and findings that they have conducted throughout the year in a conference setting. In addition, they will be able to hear research ideas and results from students across the nation and learn from an esteemed keynote speaker.

Fundraising/Volunteering: All members will be given the opportunity to fund raise and volunteer from home in our various events throughout the year!
