Brookside Square Parking Resolution FAQ:
Q: Will my reserve spot be affected?
A: NO! The board has no authority to change your reserved spot without your permission or take away any individual's reserve spot.
Q: Why don’t we make more parking?
A: The community is capped out on "Impervious Surface”. We are unable to install additional blacktop in the community. Additionally, an increase in blacktop will change the aesthetics of the community as Brookside is loved for our foliage and open spaces.
Q:Is this going to negatively affect my parking?
A:These rules were implemented to loosen the parking inside of the courts where residents should have the first right to park. Many residents own 3-5 cars and they park all those vehicles inside the courts. Not only does this clog the courts, it takes away the ability for many owner’s to park inside of their courts at night.
Q: Why wasn’t this reviewed with the community?
A:The Board of Trustees formed a parking committee comprised of volunteers and trustees which met on 3 separate occasions for several hours each time to discuss the pro’s , con’s , hurdles and benefits of parking resolution. The committee tried to look at the parking situation from all angles and many of the community's peers spent much of their free time assisting in constructing the foundation of this resolution. Several announcements were made at the open meetings and on the official community Facebook page looking for volunteers in person or via email to allow people with busy schedules, the opportunity to voice their opinion. All residents had an opportunity to participate and provide feedback or concerns.
Q: Brookside doesn’t have a parking problem in my court, why do I have to follow the rules?
A: Brookside has had a parking problem for years due to the expanding family size and limited space available. The issues finally came to a head this year. Many houses have excessive cars and park them in their lots, disregarding their neighbors and their desire to park in the court. This resolution is focused on the homeowners and easing the parking problems which directly affect them. If you do not have a parking problem in your court now, then you may not have a parking problem in your court after the resolution as well. This resolution is prioritizing the owner’s first and focusing on having them to be able to park up to 2 cars in the lots and dissuading excess cars which should not be there.
Q: How will these policies be enforced or policed throughout the community?
A: As done with our other bylaws and policies, Brookside will be largely depending on homeowner reports. We will not be walking up and down courts during the day or at night looking to enforce policy. If any homeowner sees someone not following the bylaws and emails us we will take swift action.
Q: Can I let a visiting family member (like elderly parents or a child returning late from work) use my reserved parking space?
A: Yes. If you want a guest or family member to use your reserved spot for safety or convenience, you can temporarily park your own vehicle in a designated visitor space. Simply give your reserved parking tag to your visitor to hang from their rearview mirror.
This swap ensures our community rules are still maintained, as your residence will still only have a maximum of two vehicles parked in the court at any given time.
