Before COVID, Midwest JSA spent our time at Madison for Spring and Fall State, a time in which we got to see the capital building, and be a political capital. It really connected our students to the work that we were doing. Not only did we get to go to Madison, but we also got to the nation’s capital: Washington D.C. For Winter Congress, it was always a blessing to roam the streets of the capital, and being apart of a group of people that you were going to have seriously amazing conversations with. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get back to either of those places, but that’s why, as LTG, I will advocate for us to get back to the capitals, and really give the best convention experience possible.
Midwest Cabinet
For many, Midwest JSA isn’t a sector of JSA that delegates are made aware of. Many dream of improving the JSA platform, but don’t know how. That’s why, as LTG, I will give delegates the chance to see what the Midwest is all about, letting them shadow our members and really get to understand how we make an impact, and how they can make an impact. That way, not only do they know if they want to be apart of our great community, but they’ll know how they can tackle issues we’re looking to solve.
Local Politics/Activism
Previously, I have mentioned a bit about Debate and Activism collaborations. This interdepartmental team will have the opportunity to provide information and tactics to individual chapters in order to instigate their involvement in local politics and activism initiatives. The first move towards this new program is a simple form where chapters will be able to submit pieces of information about their local opportunities and involvement in their communities. Furthermore I’ll implement a segment in CoCP where chapter presidents will be able to discuss said involvement.
