New Students !! Lifelink Bridge is enrolling!
DreamTeam is a student led program dedicated to supporting and advocating for Deferred Action for Childhoods Arrivals (DACA) recipients and undocumented students through, but not limited to, their college journey. We are a team of college peers, some of whom are DACA recipients, who are dedicated to provide the support, resources and network to help our community. As we continue to grow, we hope that our values and mission spreads outside of Lifelink and into our communities in New York City.
The Brooklyn Lifelink Dream held a five part series to raise awareness of the unique challenges undocumented students and DACA recipients face.
The first session featured the sponsor of the NYS Jose Peralta DREAM Act, Assembly Member Carmen De La Rosa.
The second session was an immigration roundtable that featured the New York Immigration Coalition, Make the Road and the Mayor’s Office on Immigrant Affairs which shared resources available to immigrants in NYC and NYS.
The third session featured a student led panel with the Dream Team where students shared how individuals can be an ally to the undocumented population. Students also provided insight into the challenges that undocumented students face.
The fourth session was a Q&A with Associate Professor of Classics at Princeton and author Dan-El Padilla Peralta where Dan-El spoke reflected on writing Undocumented: A Dominican Boy's Odyssey from a Homeless Shelter to the Ivy League and his journey from being an undocumented child to a professor.
The last session featured a discussion on scholarships available to DACA students through the NYS Dream Act, the Fostering Youth Success Alliance, and on campus supports and included a representative from the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation who provided information on scholarship opportunities for DACA students.

"The DREAM Act (short for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) was a bill in Congress that would have granted legal status to certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and went to school here."
"Voting is a privilege that not every student/ person has so they depend on YOUR vote. The Dream Team continues to advocate for undocumented and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients. Because of their status, these students are unable to vote but their voice are as important and heard as well."
"Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a kind of administrative relief from deportation as an executive order. created by the Obama Administration in 2012 to protect certain undocumented individuals who came to the United States as children from deportation.
The purpose of DACA is to protect eligible immigrant youth who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA gives young undocumented immigrants: 1) protection from deportation, and 2) a work permit. The program expires after one year. "
