I am currently a senior studying Health Services Management. After completing my bachelor's degree, I plan on pursuing a master's degree in Health Administration after gaining some real world experience. This field interests me because not only do the nurses and doctors need to be skilled at what they do clinically, they need a strong management team behind them that will lead them to transform their organization.
I have been acquainted with the healthcare industry since my senior year of high school. I graduted with an EMT certification and took that skill set to a private ambulance company. Since then, I was an intern associated with a data analyst research team regarding palliative care, a life enrichment assistant at a long-term care facility, a volunteer for a hospice organization, and finally an administartive intern for a home health agency. Although I have dabbled in different avenues in healthcare, HSM has been my passion. I chose this major because I do not mind being the person making a difference behind the scenes. I have a strong sense of organization and leadership and being in a management position for one of the most important industries in the world is something I can be proud of.
Being involved in my first administrative internship for about a month, while still being a full-time student has pushed me to new heights; I have really became aware of my greatest strengths. My internship is teaching me independence and organization as most work is completed individually with guidance and supervision. It is teaching me to learn on the go and learn quickly. I have been able to gain some experience in recruitment, payroll, client communications, and filing paperwork.
