I am an 18-year Brookline resident, married with two college-aged kids; former President of the Lawrence After-School Program (7 years); Chair of BHS After-the-Prom Party (4 years); Executive Steering Committee Brookline Education Foundation (4 years); former TMM (4 years); Stanford graduate; and recently I have joined the business development committee at Brookline.news a new local news source for Brookline.
I will work hard to ensure we have good planning as we “upzone” Harvard Street, develop our infrastructure, expand our housing opportunities, meet our climate goals and objectives, identify our transportation needs and serve all residents in our town.
Brookline needs to develop more affordable housing, maintain vibrant commercial districts and invest in sustainable infrastructure. As we consider proposals like “upzoning” Harvard Street, I have concerns that development will go unchecked, and nothing will be done to address these concerns. We need assurances that these plans include diverse housing and our main streets have ample storefront space and outside dining areas. We need guarantees that we will include safer bike lanes and available parking (with electric chargers) as we grow and build. Currently there is no way to ensure any of these concerns. If we rush forward without a comprehensive planning process, we may not be able to control or adapt these plans, and developers will be making these decisions for us.
