Coach Nace 1956-64

Coach Jim Nace led the Bristol Varsity basketball team for 9 years, from 1956-1964. His teams won 130 games, which is the second most wins by a coach in Bristol Boys Basketball history. Bristol had an overall record of 130-69 under Coach Nace, winning 2 TIA League Championships (1960 and 1962). Nace won his 100th game against Jamestown, PA on Jan 23, 1962.

Coach Nace was a native of Girard. He played basketball at Girard High School and was later inducted into their Hall of Fame. After high school, he attended Ohio State on a full scholarship for basketball. He ultimately left Ohio State to attend and play basketball at Mount Union College. In 1956, after graduating from Mount Union, Nace was hired to teach Phys Ed at Bristol. He coached Boys Basketball, Girls Softball, Boys Baseball, as well as Jr Hi Boys Basketball for the Panthers. In addition, Coach Nace was instrumental in starting the Golf program at Bristol.

In 1964, Nace left Bristol to coach at Hubbard High School. He finished his career as a Guidance Counselor at Mineral Ridge High School. After retiring in 1989, Jim and his wife moved to their long-time vacation destination of Ormond Beach, on the east coast of Florida. Coach Nace was a near-scratch golfer and still goes out to the driving range to hit golf balls every chance he gets.

During his tenure at Bristol, Jim Nace coached many great players, most notably Jerry Strom '59 and Chuck Robinson '62. Jerry was selected as an All-Ohio Honorable Mention player his senior year and finished his career with 1,840 points. 60 years later, Jerry still holds the record for the most points ever scored by a Bristol basketball player. Chuck was also selected as an All-Ohio Honorable Mention player his senior year. He finished his career with 1,217 points, and is currently ranked 5th on the All-Time scoring list at Bristol.
