1923 Bristol Basketball

Coach Sewall

Record:  21-1

The Bristol High basketball team ruled supreme as the champions of the Trumbull County Interscholastic Association. The honor was won by them when they walloped the Kinsman team 38-18 in the final game of the tourney held at the Ohio Lamp gym on Dana Avenue.

The final game was played before the largest crowds ever to attend a county game. Mud-spattered flivvers and other vehicles lined Dana Avenue three deep while the Ohio Lamp gym could hardly hold the people they brought to the scene of the battle.

Bristol’s victory came as the culmination of wonderful playing during the course of the tourney. In only one game were they sorely pressured to emerge victors. That was the Johnston affair, the Johnston boys forcing them to step on the gas to win by a count of 25-24. But win they did, and they proved that they were every inch champions.
