Rules and Etiquette

Below are the Rules and Etiquette for Briones Horse Center. Please follow all set rules when you are at Briones Horse Center. Thank you.

Ranch Rules

These rules are intended for the safety of both the horses and the people.

Ranch Hours: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m, Arena Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Park in designated areas only. Drive SLOW entering the ranch.
NO smoking inside barn, arena, round ring, or near picnic tables.
NO dogs allowed on the ranch.
Tie horses only to hitching posts, wash ricks or hitching rings inside box stalls.
Clean horse droppings immediately in any area outside of your stall or pasture area.
Close and secure all gates and doors immediately. Please close feed doors if unattended.
It is suggested that you do not exercise pastured horses at feeding times. 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Lock tack room upon leaving ranch, by car or horse. BHC is not responsible for any lost or missing tack.
Boarders tack only in tack rooms.
Hay and shavings are to distributed solely by BHC staff. Any hay stacked on the property is property of BHC.
Please abide by Park Rules. Enter trail system via. our gate and access trail only.
The park discourages riders from riding on the park entrance street.
No outside trainers allowed.
All children under 18 MUST wear a helmet while riding in the arena. We recommend that all riders wear a helmet.
All small children must be under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
Any toddlers must be at hands length or be carried by an adult at all times at the ranch.
NEVER leave horses unattended in arena, ring, wash racks, or hitching post.
Please respect the belongings of others and use only your tack, and handle only your own horse.
Items unclaimed in lost a found for over 30 days will become property of BHC.
If in doubt about a ranch rule, please talk to Karl Hempfling before proceeding.
The last person on the ranch at night is to turn off the ranch lights; arena, round pen, barn, wash racks, lock tack room doors and close barn doors.

Arena Etiquette

Here is the arena etiquette.

Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Riders have priority over longeing then turn-outs. This means that if someone is waiting to ride, then the horse turn-outs must wait.
Please NEVER leave a horse unattended in the arena. Horses must be supervised at ALL times.
Two horses may be longed at the same time when each horse is on a longe line.
Only ONE horse turned out in the arena at a time.
Turn-outs are limited to 10 minutes unless no one is waiting for the area.
When approaching another rider, pass LEFT shoulder to LEFT shoulder.
Children under 18 must wear helmets. We recommend helmet use to all riders.
Please remove all trail obstacles, jumps, etc. from arena immediately after usage to the storage area.
Mount and dismount from the center of the arena, NOT at the rail.
NO RIDING ON GROUNDS OUTSIDE ARENA.
Mount, dismount, and turn horse loose only after gate is properly closed and secured.
Please respect the needs and space of those involved in lessons and/or training.
No climbing or sitting on arena wall.
NO SMOKING at BHC.
