The Melachos Table
The Melachos Table
The Melachos Table was the list of the things that people couldn't do on the Sabbath. These 39 things, however, weren't just things. They were categories of things. That meant that the list of actual things they couldn't do was massive. If someone were to do any of those things, they would be viewed as unholy and a sinner. If people followed these rules to perfection, they were viewed as holy individuals who had a 100% chance of making it to heaven. This is something God really disliked, so he sent Paul to tell them about it.

Here are some examples of things that you couldn't do:

- You couldn't throw a toothpick into a fire because that falls under the category of burning.
- Now, you wouldn't be able to drive a car because you're making the engine burn fuel.
- If something was on fire, you couldn't put out the fire unless it was endangering someone.
- You couldn't remove a stain from clothing.
- You couldn't spit because the spit might move some dust and make a furrow in the ground which would count as plowing.
- You couldn't kill a mosquito or a fly because that would be slaughtering an animal. You could only kill an animal if it was presenting danger to a human life.
You may have noticed that they were allowed to break the rules if it was a danger to a human life, which means that they occasionally cared more about themselves than being "holy," but still prevented themselves from doing simple things like throw a toothpick into a fire even though they made life multiple times harder on the Sabbath.
