Angkor Thom was the last and most enduring capitol city of the Khmer empire. It was established in the late twelfth century by king Jayavarman VII. The procession of buddhas to the entrance Is spectacular.
Angkor Wat was built for king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capitol city. The largest and best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre It is the epitome of the high classical style of Khmer architecture and a symbol of Cambodia
The Bayon was built in the 13th century as the state temple of king Jayavarman VII, and stands at the centre of his capitol, Angkor Thom. Its walls depict many battles - fascinating to "read" them!
It's just beautiful. I can't begin to single out one feature or another so they're all here. Banteay Srei is one of the most unusual temples of Angkor, Cambodia. It is built largely of red sandstone, which is covered with elaborate and deeply carved decoration. The buildings themselves are miniature in scale.
Ta Prohm was built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. It has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: trees growing out of the ruins and jungle surroundings.
