Car Parking Marshals’ Briefing.
First, a big thank you for volunteering to help marshal car parking at The Auckley Show. Without your support we could not put on a safe and enjoyable experience for traders and visitors to the event.
The event organiser is the Chair of Auckley Show Neil Woodward who can be contacted at 07799761006. Howard Hill the Health and Safety Officer can be contacted at 07792971382.
To be identified is the team leader for car parking marshals.
We have an Information Stand located in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Children’s Entertainment Marquee. The Command and Control is located close by as is the First Aid.
Toilets – two trailers – are located near the pavilion. There is also an easy access toilet with baby changing facilities at the same location. With an additional easy access toilet near the Eagle and Child Festival tent
On arrival you should make yourself aware of the locations. It’s important you are able to direct visitors and traders to these locations.
The Information Point is the location to direct traders and visitors to report a variety of things. Lost and found vulnerable persons, child or adult lost and found property, reports of crime. We also provide a customer care service who will deal with complaints.
If you arrive by vehicle you should park in the Visitors Car Park. Cycles can be secured at the security fencing at the Pavilion.
Arrivals by motorcycle should be aware the parking area is grass and you should bring a wooden block for the stand.
We advise car share, if possible, to preserve parking space.
Please make yourself aware of the Showground Plan, Parking Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4, the Traders Car Park and areas allocated for Blue Badge Parking.
Taxi pick up and drop off point outside 29 Ravenswood Drive DN9 3PA
The three Main Parking Areas are:-
Visitor public parking
Trader Car Parking
Blue badge parking
Your Health and Safety are important, we advise to:-
· Bring suitable clothing to stay warm and dry for any weather.
· Consider an umbrella to shield from rain or to provide shade on a hot day.
· Consider bringing a snack/drink. We will provide bottled water located in the pavilion, help yourself.
· Consider Sun cream.
· Please ensure you have a fully charged mobile phone to assist with communications.
· We provide a Hi-Viz jacket that must be worn at all times, these can be collected from the Information Stand
The main aim of a Traffic Marshal is to ensure the smooth movement of traffic throughout the site and to direct vehicles towards their allocated parking spaces.
Traffic Marshals need to remain vigilant throughout the site to ensure the security of vehicles and report any suspicious behaviours or security risks to the team leader or Command and Control point.
Trust your instinct and that gut feeling, ACT - Action Counters Terrorism. If you see something that doesn’t feel right report it.
You may be required to check passes; traders have been issued with a pass to enter the showground.
It’s important to only allow blue badge holders into the spaces allocated. However, we expect Marshals to use initiative. Past experience has proved that some less able visitors are not in possession of a pass. Discretion should be used and the offer that the less abled person be dropped off on the showground and driver, if able, to use the general public parking area. We have a one-way system around the perimeter of the showground that easily facilitates this option.
It is important to park vehicles as tidily as possible as the spaces soon fill up.
Health and Safety of Car Park Users
Marshals should must be aware that Drivers vision is impaired whilst reversing. We should discourage reversing if there are other alternatives.
Marshals must be aware that Blue Badge Holders may require extra space to alight from vehicles.
Sterile Area - The tarmac area at the entrance to showground should be kept clear at all times with no exceptions. This area is allocated to Emergency Vehicles as a rendezvous point should a major or critical incident be declared. The fire hydrant is located at this point. .
There is a 5mph speed restriction throughout the site which is clearly displayed along routes.
All areas are grass which can become slippery when wet. Marshals need to ensure vehicles maintain movement but within the speed limit.
Should a vehicle become stuck we have a plan in place to call upon a local farmer with a tractor. Calls for this service should be made through Neil Woodward or Howard Hill.
Similar requests can be made for straw to be deployed if it is felt the surface is deteriorating.
The one-way system may be reversed due to weather conditions.
It’s important to encourage pedestrians away from the flow of traffic and be vigilant of pedestrian movement when directing vehicles.
Fires and BBQs are not permitted within car parks nor in any area within Riverside Park
The perimeter of the showground should remain free of parked vehicles to maintain easy access for emergency vehicles. However, the width of route is such that should blue badge parking become over whelmed, the perimeter/ emergency route can accommodate vehicles parked nose to tail along the route. Ensure that there is room for other vehicles to pass if this is done. This system has proved successful in the past and should prove even more successful with the newly implemented one way system.
Full car Park - what to do
It’s important to monitor the capacity of the car park. Previous experience says the peak time of arrivals will be about 1.30pm to 2pm. The Event Manager should be made aware of the developing situation before we each full capacity. Arrangements have been made to close the car park and direct traffic to park on Common Lane just past the last bungalow. A local farmer has agreed to ensure the wide grass verge beyond the housing has been cut short to create an emergency parking area.
The tide will eventually turn and about 2.30pm traffic begins to leave the site. However, arrivals continue to about 4pm.
Auckley Show thank you for your support and are confident and optimistic you will enjoy the day.
