Orientation
It's common that schools host orientation where they introduce you to the school and what to expect. You can also have your questions answered during orientation and meet other students. Attending orientation might be required.
Advisement
Many schools don't let incoming freshman create their own schedule. If this is the case, you most likely have to meet with your advisor in order to make your schedule. Do not wait to meet with your advisor. If you meet with your advisor at a late time, you might not be able to access the classes you want. Make sure you have your advisor's contact info!
College Email
Your college will email you about setting up your college email. You need to set up this email as it is the email that will be used throughout college. Once you set up this email, make it a habit to constantly check it as they will send you important information to that email.
Holds + To-dos
On your college portal, you will see holds and to-dos that must be completed in order for you to register for classes and start your first day. Holds are more urgent as they will prevent you from doing certain things like registering for classes. To-dos might or might not prevent you from doing certain tasks as well. Regardless, both should be addressed as quickly as possible! There should be a description for each hold and to-do describing how you can resolve the problem.
Housing
If you plan on dorming, then you have to apply for housing. You most likely will be able to pick which dorm you will be living at, so do your research. Find out which dorm is the best and apply for that one. If you get assigned a roommate, reach out to them before the first day of school. Also, make sure you know what's allowed and what's not.
Enrollment Deposit
In order to enroll into college, you will have to pay an enrollment deposit, which signifies that you are committing to the school. You might not have to pay an enrollment deposit if it's waved.
Submit Vaccine Proof + Immunization Forms
Many schools will require students who are attending in-person classes to submit proof of certain vaccines. Check your school's site for more information. Also, you might have to submit immunization forms to your school's health department. Just search your college's name followed by "immunization form".
Class Registration
If your school allows you to register for your own classes, then register as soon as possible. Classes fill up quickly!! Do your research!! Find out which professors are good and which classes are worth taking. If your school uses Degree Works, then utilize it to see which classes you need to take to graduate.
This is a form that I highly recommend you fill out so that you can track your enrollment progress. At the end of the form is a spot for you to ask any questions you might have. Once you fill this out, I will review it and if there are any questions, I will send you an email answering your questions. You can also use this to schedule a meeting! (Open it in a new tab and submit once finished
