Project 3 explanatory portion
In this service project our partner was “Boys and Girls club” of Brunswick, GA. As most businesses and organizations in this ending phase of a Global pandemic are suffering from lack of workers to fill positions that are desperately needed to be filled. Our group was asked to make a virtual flier that could be posted on College of Coastal Georgia’s message board, and other media outlets.
Knowing that the majority of the people we are trying to reach out to are students The flier needed to be more attention grabbing than informative. Using information from the “visualcommunicationguy.com” website we used contrasting colors by having a yellow background and blue writing. Karen Haller at “karenhaller.com” writes that yellow is the most noticeable color in daylight and that is why it is used for caution signs and safety gear, so what better color to grab the attention of fast moving eyes on message boards. There is also the fact that Yellow and Blue are the colors of one of the neighboring High Schools, so the flier might be noticed quicker by local college students.
Learning about pathos from the book “Becoming Rhetorical”, by “Jodie Nicotra” The wording of the flier was meant to spark the emotion of those who want to make a change with today's youth. The flier also features the” boys and girls club” slogan “Great futures start here”, which is meant to have a double meaning as well. There was a picture of children on the flier that was meant to grab the attention of any one in the college is looking to be a future educator. The flier will be posted on the college website, message board and D2L interface. Steps have also been taken to post the flier on community Facebook groups.
