Bio and Pictures

Currently I am in my 4th year of my PhD. program in Economics at the University of Oklahoma. My fields of interest are education, housing/ public policy, and marijuana legalization. Most of my work investigates questions relating to education policies and student outcomes, housing markets, and public policies that help low and middle income individuals.

Before coming back to complete my PhD. I taught from 2011-2016 at Cypress Lakes High School and also as a adjunct professor at Lone Star College, both in Cypress Texas. Teaching in a low income school and at a junior college help focus my fields of research and looking at how public policy and help student outcomes in their public education. I truly love teaching and my teaching philosophy is centered around hands on learning and making the material interactive. I firmly believe that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. To provide such environment, I strive to bring the learning material “alive” in the classroom by relating the core concepts to relevant real-world examples that my students can relate to. I believe that when I achieve this type of atmosphere students can meet their full potential and retain more of the material. Economics always shows that there are two sides to every action and because of this I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks, and not fear that they will be shut down by others.

I am also a huge runner, biker, and all around outdoors adventure guy, and my son (Reed) is usually always by my side loving the outdoors as well. Outdoor activities are a huge part of my life and that includes running, taking the mountain bikes to the park, fishing and hiking, and of course coaching Reed's T-Ball team.
