BAW was started in 2001 by a student from Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School to raise money for the Hasbro Children's Hospital's Asthma Camp. Each year, our organizing team consists of a group of medical students who are continuing the tradition of supporting children with asthma and promoting asthma and health education. We are grateful for Brown and the local community businesses and organizations that work with us each year to support this worthy cause.

The Community Asthma Program is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary educational program based at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. It provides children and their families with the knowledge and resources necessary to manage pediatric asthma. The Asthma Camp, a component of the Community Asthma Program, is a camp for Rhode Island boys and girls (ages 9-13) from underserved communities who have been diagnosed with moderate or severe asthma. The camp will be held at Camp Canonicus in Exeter, Rhode Island. At the camp, children learn how to control their asthma under the guidance of physicians, therapists, and EMTs. Additionally, they have the opportunity to share ideas and concerns about asthma with each other while participating in fun camping and outdoor recreational activities to build self-reliance and confidence. For more information, check out the program's website.
