The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) sponsored Bioinformatics Research Center (BIC) at the CSIR-IICB organizes Bioinformatics workshops twice a year. This workshop aims at creating trained human resources who can analyze genomics data, create bioinformatics software and workflows, create useful R packages and host biological databases using open source platforms. The objective of this workshop is also to bring researchers involved in computational biology and genomics research together. The sessions will involve intense brainstorming sessions leading to tangible products. This will be an ideal platform for the researchers to stay ahead in this leading edge science. Attendees will be exposed to the challenges and the effective solutions associated with multiomics data analysis in these trans-disciplinary research fields.
The National Network Project (NNP) of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, is a nationwide initiative to strengthen bioinformatics research and training. It connects Bioinformatics Research Centers (BICs) across institutions and CSIR laboratories, creating a collaborative platform for computational biology and genomics. NNP focuses on capacity building, advanced infrastructure, and the development of databases, software tools, and workflows using open-source platforms. By promoting resource sharing, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the project supports the growth of skilled human resources and enhances India’s global presence in bioinformatics and life sciences research.
The meeting dates will be announced in the web site and also distributed through the flyer to reach a larger research community. Please see the program schedule and archive for further details.

Guidelines:
Session Time-9:30 am to 6:30 pm.
Lunch will be provided on all workshop days.
Small welcome kit will be provided.
Transportation and accommodation will not be provided.
Participants need to bring their own laptop.
Certificate will be issued on successful completion of the project.
After a training session, the participants will work on a defined problem from any of the given broad categories based on their area of expertise.
Selected candidates will be assigned for either BIC (15 to 19 sep’25) or NNP (22 to 26 sep’25) workshop based on their research experience and hands on skills.
Target Participants.
Bachelors/Masters, Ph.D candidates with a research background in bioinformatics / computational biology/computer science shall work on a defined problem from any of the above broad categories based on their area of expertise.
Required skills (any of the 3 points) :
Proficiency in programming languages such as Perl/Python/R/HTML5/web3.
Expertise in deep learning algorithms.
Applied knowledge in genome/transcriptome data handling and required. This should be reflected in terms of the applicant's publications, certifications etc.
Candidates will be selected for BIC/NNP entirely based on their expertise, research experience, hands on skills and publication(s).
If any shortlisted applicant is not employed or affiliated to any organization, we need to be convinced by his/her skills for his/her participation. The candidates can produce a supporting letter from his/her academic advisors/ employers from his/her previous institute recommending him/her for his/her participation.
After the training session, the participants are expected to work independently during the jamboree. They are expected to have prior knowledge and hands on skills based on which their projects shall be allotted.
