Grade 6: Inventions that changed Korea

-As part of an integrated research and creative arts project, students highlighted three inventions they believe significantly impacted Korea. To present their findings, we used the traditional design of Hanok-style housing as the foundation for a collaborative class display.

-After completing and receiving feedback on their individual research essays, students were grouped to encourage teamwork and shared responsibility. Within these groups, they collaborated to assemble the final display.

-Each student created their own paper Hanok structure, with three windows representing the three inventions they had researched. Opening the front page of the Hanok reveals the full research paper tucked underneath, combining creativity with academic writing in a visually engaging way.

-This project fostered research, writing, critical thinking, and collaborative skills, while also celebrating traditional Korean architecture and innovation.

Grade 4: Who's Brave?

-As the culminating assessment for our unit on Community and Occupations, students explored the concept of bravery in different professions. Each student selected one job they believed to be particularly brave; such as firefighters, police officers, or rescue workers. We discussed together on the qualities that make these roles courageous.

-To showcase their learning, students created and decorated a poster highlighting their chosen profession. Each poster featured an original drawing of the job, and underneath, a short written piece explaining why they found this role especially brave.

-This project combined creative expression with writing practice, encouraging students to think critically about the values of courage and service while developing their descriptive writing skills.
