The Broad Run Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2017 to provide a means to recognize the significant and positive efforts and achievements of various athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors to Broad Run Athletics while reinforcing a sense of Broad Run’s history and tradition.
Hall of Fame Nominee Criteria
The Broad Run Athletic Hall of Fame will recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Student Athletes, Coaches, Administrators, and Friends/Contributors to Broad Run Athletics. A nominee will be considered only if he/she meets the criteria listed below.
- Student-Athletes
- Any athlete in the history of Broad Run High School can be nominated.
- The candidate shall be eligible for nomination no earlier than ten years after graduation from Broad Run High School.
- The candidate must have been a varsity team member of the sport(s) for which he/she is nominated.
- The candidate must have made a positive impact to the team(s) for which he/she participated, including athletic achievement, exemplary leadership qualities, and character.
- An honoree may be inducted posthumously.
- Coach/Administrator
- Candidates must have coached or been a staff member for at least five years at Broad Run High School.
- The candidate shall be eligible for nomination no earlier than five years after their tenure for what they are nominated for at Broad Run High School ends.
- The nominee shall have demonstrated an exceptional ability to enhance the athletic experience of the student-athlete, while serving as a positive role model through exemplary leadership and character.
- An honoree may be inducted posthumously.
- Friends/Contributors of Broad Run High School Athletics
- Candidates must have made significant contributions to the Broad Run Athletic program, specific team(s) and/or in development of athletic facilities at Broad Run.
- The candidate must have volunteered their time, expertise, or resources for a minimum of five years.
- An honoree may be inducted posthumously.
Nomination Procedures
- Any athlete in the history of Broad Run High School can be nominated.
- Nominations may be submitted by any former or current Broad Run teacher, coach, administrator or student, or by any member of the community.
- Nomination forms will be available at Broad Run High School and on the Broad Run Athletics Website. Nominations must be submitted electronically online or written on the approved form. If nominator does not have access to the form, an email or letter detailing the nomination can be sent to the Broad Run Athletic Director.
- Nominations must be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered that year. The deadline will be posted on the Broad Run Athletics Website and communicated to the public at least 60 days prior to deadline cutoff date. Deadline is generally towards the end of each calendar year.
- Nominations must include a resume of the athlete’s accomplishments (statistics, awards, accomplishments, etc.) as well as other qualifications.
- Special category nominations (Coach/Administrator, Friends/Contributors) will follow the same procedure, using a different nomination form.
Hall of Fame Selection Committee
The Broad Run Principal and Athletic Director shall appoint the Hall of Fame Selection Committee (the Committee). The committee will be comprised of no fewer than 7 members. The Broad Run Athletic Director, or their designee, shall serve as the Chairperson of the Committee. Members should consist of various “eras” of Broad Run’s history.
The members of the selection committee can be from the following groups of individuals:
- Broad Run Athletic Director or his/her assistant
- Varsity coaches, past and present
- Broad Run Alumni
- Former inductees
- Faculty/athletics representative
- Broad Run Athletic Booster Club
- Community members
The Committee can modify, change and make exceptions to these guidelines as necessary, if approved by a simple majority vote of the Committee.
Hall of Fame Selection
- The Committee will establish a list of eligible candidates from committee nominations and those submitted through the approved nomination process.
- The Committee will determine the number of inductees each year.
- The Committee will discuss the accomplishments of each nominee and will select a slate of candidates to be voted on. The Committee reserves the right to request additional information from the candidates directly and/or the person submitting the application.
- To be approved for induction, the candidate must have a majority of the votes from the Committee.
- If, at any time, a sitting member of the Committee, is being considered for membership in the Hall of Fame, that person must be dismissed from the room until the discussion and vote are completed.
- No sitting member of the Committee may cast a vote for other immediate family members.
- Any nominee not voted for induction into the Hall of Fame during the year of his/her nomination, will remain in consideration for three additional years. After that time period, the candidate must be re-nominated for consideration.
Hall of Fame Induction
- The Broad Run Athletic Director shall choose the date of the Hall of Fame Induction to coincide with a home varsity football game or other appropriate event during the Fall Sports Season.
- Selected candidates will be inducted into the Broad Run Athletic Hall of Fame at a reception and ceremony prior to the game and also honored during the halftime celebration.
- Inductees will be given an award to indicate their membership into the Hall of Fame as well as a Lifetime pass to all regular season home Broad Run athletic events.
- Inductees will have their picture and brief list of accomplishments displayed on the Broad Run Wall of Fame, located in the hallway outside of the main gym at Broad Run High School.
Funding
The Broad Run Athletic Hall of Fame shall have a financial account under the oversight of the Broad Run Athletic Booster Club but all HOF activities shall be 100% funded by donations and sponsorships made to the Hall of Fame. The Committee shall solicit donations from the community and other sources as appropriate.
