About Stormwater
What is Stormwater?
Stormwater, also written storm water, is water that originates from precipitation (storm), including heavy rain and meltwater from hail and snow
What is Stormwater Runoff?
Stormwater, instead of absorbing into the ground, flows over streets, parking lots and roofs and into a water body or storm drain. Stormwater runoff is often worsened by human activities, and can contain nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants from fertilizers, pet and yard waste
How can I help?
Pick up Litter
Litter deposited on the streets and into storm drains makes it's way into our waterbodies. Properly dispose of your trash to prevent it from reaching our shores.
Pick up pet waste
Failing to clean up after your pet is not only unpleasant and a nuisance, but it also pollutes our waterways. Pet waste contains fecal coliform bacteria which cause diseases in humans and cause our water to be unfit for swimming.
Clear leaves from roads
Leaves and other debris can prevent stormwater from entering stormdrains and cause flooding making roads impassible. Clearing stormdrains in around your property will help prevent flooding on your street.
Consider a Rain Barrel
Rain barrels capture water from a roof and hold it for later use such as on lawns, gardens or indoor plants. Collecting roof runoff in rain barrels reduces the amount of stormwater that flows from your property into the storm system. It's a great way to conserve water and it's free water for use in your landscape.
