For our first engineering project of high school, (technically, the first real project was a paper helicopter/glider), our engineering teacher, Mr. Daab, announced that we had to create a mousetrap car, where we were supposed to create a small vehicle powered by only a mousetrap that will traverse 10 feet in the shortest time possible.
I contributed to the design and ideas, while Sadhana came up with most of the measurements and 3D printed the chassis, which was then replaced last minute by Sreeram, who built another model with his own design and planning. We then decided on race day that it would be better to use Sreeram's car instead of the car built by me and Sadhana, for Sreeram's car had a better overall structure and stability than our 3D printed one (we used weak filament for the chassis).
Mr. Daab held a mousetrap car tournament for all of the teams in my period and 1st period (I was in 2nd), following a bracket-style competition. We ended up passing the qualifiers but didn't make it past the semis, so overall our team performed somewhat bad. Looking back on it, I should've tried to execute and evaluate our prototype/final design of our car outside of school, so that we could've made it higher in the mousetrap car tournament.
