In 2020, Oakland University selected four undergraduates as our Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship nominees:
Jack Andrews. Jack is a bioengineering major from Chesterfield, Michigan. He worked with Prof. Jia Li, using artificial neural networks to analyze passive infrared sensor data. He is a member of the Honors College.
Michael Bell. Michael is a biochemistry major from Troy, Michigan. He works with Prof. Michael Sevilla doing theoretical calculations to understand the formation of nucleic acid radials caused by radiation. He is a member of the Honors College.
Laura Campbell. Laura is a biochemistry major from Ortonville, Michigan. She works with Prof. Colin Wu, and is coauthor on an article published in the journal Genes about "Assembly of a G-Quadruplex Repair Complex by the FANCJ DNA Helicase and the REV1 Polymerase". She is a member of the Honors College.
Thea Kirsch Mangu. Thea is a biomedical sciences major from Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was awarded a Provost Undergraduate Research grant for her work with Prof. Luis Villa-Diaz studying stem cell biology. She is a member of the Honors College.
